Paul Devens works with architecture, sound, video and performance. Custom made for the exhibition of ‘The Machine’ Paul Devens composed a soundscape that moves in between the memory of sounds that accompanied the industrial revolution and the reality of the almost soundless automated processes of today. The composition appropriates recorded sounds of ship engines and construction sites as well as electronic generated sounds and the sounds of hacked toy instruments. The soundscape travels sonically through the various spaces of the exhibition at C-mine.
For the sound installation Paul Devens was assisted by Chaim van Luit, Jörg Theissen and Thomas Rutgers.
